Gigrin Farm Red Kite Feeding Station and Kite Centre
01/01/2003

The dramatic rescue of a red kite has took place on the 1st day of 20003.
Tony Cross - The Welsh Kite Trust project officer - was called in from his New Years day lunch to climb a large Oak tree from which hung a red kite.
The bird had somehow become entangled in plastic binder twine and was hanging precariously from a branch by it's left wing. Tony climbed the tree, removed the string and after a quick examination brought the kite down to earth. The bird has now been transferred to the Red Kite Rehabilitation centre which as it happens is situated at Gigrin Farm.

As the kite had been spotted by visitors to the kite feeding there was a short time lag before Tony's arrival so a video camera was brought into action.. Screen grabs are on http://www.gigrin.co.uk/newsflash.htm

The full details will be in the next issue of the Welsh Kite Trust magazine

Tregaron Kite Centre and Museum is OPEN
15/03/2002

Thr Kite Centre and Museum at Tregaron is now open to visitors and the local community having been newly refurbished.

The Kite centre and Museum now houses exciting exhibition panels, murals and wildlife sculptures. These reflect past and present times with a focus on local history and wildlife.

The red kite and Cors Caron,a raised peat bog, are featured highly in the new centre. Local primary schools produced a dramatic land art collage from natural materials collected from their visits to Cors Caron. The collage, which covers a whole wall in the centre, reflects their experience of a day exploring the bog. Accompanying the images are a set of brilliant poems expressing their emotions about their local area.

Six form students at Tregaron High School have created 12 life size models of birds seen at Cors Caron. These have been suspended from the roof space and are a delightful addition to the display panels designed by The Countryside Council for Wales. Community artist Pod Clare directed both projects.

In addition a Victorian style classroom has been developed alongside a small display of Victorian costume.

The centre is well worth a visit to enjoy the wonderful displays and to sample the local hospitality. Trgaron Kite Centre offers visitors tea and exceptionally good Welsh cakes!

The Kite Centre and Museum is open daily. For further information telephone 01974 298177.
